I am absolutely delighted to announce that I am now a member of the Medical Advisory Board of APOPS: The Association For Pelvic Organ Prolapse Support. This is headed up by Sherrie Palm; she has shown immense enthusiasm and energy in raising awareness of pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and enabling a shift in attitudes amongst both the general public and the healthcare community.
Although Sherrie is based in the US, APOPS is a global initiative, recognising that POP is a major problem worldwide. We have a long way to go to improve the management of people with POP, all the way from diagnosis and screening, through to uniformity of treatment. APOPS actively engages with key stakeholders in the POP arena, and despite being only a few years old, is already making huge strides in bringing POP out "into the open".
I hope to contribute to the energy that Sherrie and the whole APOPS team are putting into this work, and this will be a great opportunity for me to engage with other pelvic floor radiologists worldwide. Look out for some brand new blog posts about pelvic floor imaging soon on the APOPS website.
